Local Sierra Club member champions the rights of the voters to decide Jungo landfill issue.The Jungo landfill has been proposed near Winnemucca to take trash from the Bay area of California. Enormous in size, this landfill would take trash at the rate of 4,000 tons per day. Local Great Basin Group member Richard Cook in Winnemucca has revealed the true feelings of the area residents in a meeting Nov. 4 which was covered by the local media. Humboldt County voters were polled by mail on the landfill and the results were: favor the landfill = 14%, oppose the landfill = 78%, undecided = 8%.
