The majority of Humboldt County residents are against the proposed Jungo landfill. Exceptions to State laws will need to be enacted to site the project. Due Diligence has been requested by local residence and groups.
The request for extension criticizes the efforts of local residents to protect the local ecological environment and suggests there is no basis for concern even when laws and testimony to the contrary are written into public record. Their perspective is:
“How dare locals speak up to protect their clean environment!” Does this sound like the kind of business you want in your community? Pay particular attention to page three of the extension request.

  1. Back in the 80s a toxic landfill was proposed to an Indian tribe in Southern California near the small commmunities of Crestwood, Buckman Springs, Pine Valley and Campo just to name a few. We fought the gigantic company that approached this poor Indian Tribe for YEARS and finally won and the landfill was never put in so keep fighting to save your beautiful countryside. I love Winnemucca and see beautiful parcels of land for sale off Jungo Rd and would enjoy living there so fight the good fight and I wish you strength in your battle and some good nevada luck sure wouldn’t hurt either!

  2. From the way this request reads, Mr. Frankovich and Recology think people in this country shouldn’t be allowed to speak up and voice their concerns. It suggests that we, the people should just shut up and take whatever they wish to shove down our throats. How dare we uppity locals challenge an American Corporation like Recology. After all, they know what’s best for us. They know what’s safe and right. This drivel reads like just because the citizens of Humboldt County are standing up and saying loudly and clearly that we don’t want this landfill and we question its location and safety, all these UNPRECEDENTED AND INAPPROPRIATE ACTIONS are OUR FAULT! How inconvenient for them. Maybe Mr. Frankovich should re-familiarize himself with the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

People need to show up at this meeting on February 11 at 5:30 pm and let their voices be heard and their presence be felt. I don’t know about the rest of you out there, but I pay attention to all this, and I VOTE.
