RPC EXTENDS RECOLOGY CUP; LOCAL GROUP FILES REFERENDUM FOR NOVEMBER BALLOT February 12, 2010

“It ain’t over ‘till it’s over.”

A successful referendum would not negate existing agreements with current regional landfill users from outside of the county. It would, however, prohibit the disposal of waste from outside the county at any sites other than the regional landfill (this would include the proposed Jungo landfill).

Our “elected and selected representatives” are making decisions contrary to the wishes of a majority of the citizens of Humboldt County, our neighbors in Pershing and Churchill Counties, our local Native American population and numerous political leaders. And yet the RPC have the audacity to say they represent the people. Give me a break!

  1. GOSH THIS IS EXCITING…FIRST STEP TO GET REVOKING THE ORDINANCE FOR A 2ND LANDFILL ON THE GENERAL BALLOT TO STOP THE JUNGO ROAD LANDFILL TAKEN TODAY
Today, at 10:06 am, Thursday, 2/11/10, Marlene Brissenden filed an affidavit with the county clerk in Winnemucca, NV, initiating a referendum petition drive to repeal CO 10-15-2007. CO 10-15-2007 is the ordinance change made in Winnemucca on 10/15/07 to allow more than one land fill, outside the current regional landfill. When the Recology Conditional Use Permit was approved by the Regional Planning Commission (RPC) in April, 2007, only one land fill, the regional one, per ordinance, was allowed. Somehow, the RPC approved the CUP for a 2nd landfill site. Then, the ordinance was changed in October, 2007.
Now, the 10/07 Ordinance change is being challenged. This referendum has been filed by 5 citizens including Marlene. Next step, is a petition to get enough REGISTERED VOTERS OF HUMBOLDT COUNTY/WINNEMUCCA to sign a petition supporting the referendum. Assuming the petition is successful, the referendum to NOT ALLOW a 2nd landfill goes on the General Election ballot.
I know all of you will support a)signing the petition (as registered voters); and/or b)helping to get the petition signed.
This differs from the original ‘citizens’ petition many of you may have signed indicating your support for stopping the landfill. This is a VOTERS petition, and is targeted and recalling a specific ordinance change that cleared the way for a 2nd landfill via Jungo Road.

  2. Nice job guy’s ……..let’s get ready to ruuuuuumble…
