It is our understanding that Recently Kathleen Conaboy, James Endres (paid lobbyists for McDonald-Carano-Wilson representing Recology/Jungo Land) and Gene Hill (former sheriff, Humboldt County) have hosted a series of meetings in Winnemucca. Invited were select members of the community. The purpose of these meetings can only be for one purpose, a public relations campaign to convince the public of the safety and benefits the proposed Jungo Landfill holds for us.

“They bought this land kind of off the beaten path,” she says of Norcal Waste Systems, now known as Recology, a San Francisco-based company. “They thought nobody in Yuba County’s gonna give a damn. I don’t like the idea of wealthy, educated San Francisco dumping its garbage on one of the poorest counties in the state,” she says. “It’s wrong.” “They sneak in and get a foothold,” Creps says, “and it’s hard as hell to put a stop to it.”

Paskowitz reminded the 60 or so Wheatland residents in attendance for his presentation Tuesday that they had, in fact, been told the landfill would only hold waste from Yuba-Sutter.
“Recology cannot be trusted,” he said.
