While customers’ rates are likely to rise, San Francisco officials say the bid to ship the trash to Yuba County rather than continuing to truck it to Livermore is the most cost effective, not to mention environmentally friendly. “It’s the best of possible worlds, in one way,” said David Assmann, deputy director of the environment department. “We were able to pick the most cost-effective proposal, which was also the green proposal.”
Residents of Yuba County, though, have more mixed feelings.
