MONEY TALKS AND GARBAGE WALKS—RIGHT IN TO RURAL COMMUNITIES JUST LIKE OURS

Environmentalist said the bill (AB 1178) circumvents the right of cities and counties to set their own land use and waste management policies.

Since January, Folsom trash hauler Waste Connections Inc. spent $79,504 on behalf of AB 1178, according to filings with the California secretary of state’s office.

The bill’s other sponsor, Recology Inc. of San Francisco, spent $40,000 on the controversial measure and two minor waste management bills.

If Humboldt County should end up with the proposed Jungo Landfill, can we look forward to a bill similar to California AB 1178 making it through the Nevada legislature at some point in the future and leaving the county powerless to regulate what comes into our area? The state needs the money.
